Founded in 1910, Oakhurst has been welcoming everyone to join in “Putting Down Roots Together.” History tells of the North Decatur trolley line built by Atlanta City Street Railway Company in 1892. It crossed the South Decatur trolley line in the center of Oakhurst business district at East Lake Drive, Oakview Road, and Mead Road. The community incorporated early in the 1900s, then development occurred in spurts. Decatur annexed Oakhurst by 1916.

Students attend City Schools of Decatur at Winnona Park or Oakhurst Elementary School, Renfroe Middle School, 4/5 Academy, and Decatur High School. The Waldorf School of Atlanta and Friends School of Atlanta, and several colleges and universities, are close by.

From Midtown Atlanta, go east on Ponce De Leon, and turn either way on East Lake Drive.
