Neighborhood Amenities

Attributes start with the excellent parks and recreational facilities. Briarwood Park includes 18 acres and Murphy Candler Park 135 acres with its stocked fishing lake and several sports fields. The smaller Ashford Park features climbing areas. Activities include Kid Fit Summer Camp, street parties, Brookhaven Chili Cook-off, Brookhaven Arts Festival, and Brookhaven Farmers Markets.

Another boon, the Historic Brookhaven Neighborhood Association (HBNA), organizes activities for most of the district. Osborne Road to Peachtree Dunwoody Road and Peachtree Road to Windsor Parkway and Wimberly on the north. Annual dues are $100.

In addition, residents may get involved with special committees such as the Beautification Committee, Mom’s Club, Brookhaven Friends, and Little Nancy Creek Park. HBNA is involved in may upgrades to the community. Neighbors may donate through the non-profit Historic Brookhaven Foundation.

Rich Heritage of Brookhaven Atlanta Homes

In 1986, the National Parks Service named Brookhaven a historic district in 1986. Once home to the Creek Indians, a plantation, successful farms, and then summer cottages, the Mechanical and Manufacturers Club purchased a portion to develop Brookhaven Estates. This is now the Capital City Country Club and surrounding Country Club estate homes, the first golf course community in the Southeast. For 40 years, a substantial portion of Brookhaven was governed by North Atlanta.

Neighborhood Schools

DeKalb County School System operates the public schools serving Brookhaven. Ashford Park, Montclair Elementary, Montgomery, and Woodward, Fernbank, and John Lewis elementary schools; PATH Academy, Brookhaven Innovation Academy, Kittredge Magnet School; Chamblee Middle School in Chamblee and Sequoyah Middle School in Doraville; Cross Keys High School in Brookhaven, and Chamblee Charter High School. Many private schools, college and university programs are also in the area.

To reach the Country Club from downtown Atlanta, take Interstate 75 N./85 N. and take I-85 N. Take exit 2 toward GA-141 E/Peachtree Road. Merge onto Lenox Road NE. Turn left onto Phipps Boulevard NE, left onto Wieuca Road NE, right on North Stratford Road NE, right on Stovall Boulevard NE, and left onto Peachtree Dunwoody Road, right on Winall Down Road NE and left onto Club Drive NE.
