In 2010, the City of Atlanta pulled its own offices out of a building on Ponce de Leon Avenue. The neighborhood around it was struggling that badly: crime was up, occupancy was down. Fifteen years later, that same building is Ponce City Market, one of the most visited spots in the entire city, and people are calling the neighborhood around it the next Brooklyn. In the early 1980s, this neighborhood was mostly parking lots. Developers actually wanted to tear down its most famous theater and put a gas station in its place. The 200 acre park everyone loves today had a reputation for being unsafe after dark. Fast forward to now, and that same neighborhood holds more Fortune 500 headquarters, more arts venues, and more new high-rises going up than almost anywhere else in the Southeast.
